John Shields

 
 

Private John Shields along with Private John Colter of the Lewis and Clark Expedition threatened John Ordway's life on March 29, 1804. He was put on trial for mutiny, but was spared. He later became one of the permanent members of the Corps of Discovery. John Shields was a blacksmith, gunsmith, a skilled carpenter, and the oldest member of the expedition (34 years old).
